Steffanie Holmes – Pride and Premeditation

Pride and Premeditation is the third book in the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries series by Steffanie Holmes.

At the time of publishing this guide, this story was available on Kindle Unlimited.

Here’s more about the book, along with our free Dirty Dozen downloadable discussion question guide for your spicy book club.

Book description

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune will be gruesomely murdered at the ball.

Mina’s excited to attend the annual Argleton Jane Austen Experience at the stately Baddesley Hall. It’s just what she needs after all the recent murders – a whole weekend of dancing with Morrie, attending poetry readings with Quoth, and helping Heathcliff field marriage proposals from adoring fans.

But murder and intrigue follow Mina everywhere. When an eminent Austen scholar is run through with his own sword, Mina and her boys must solve the mystery before the killer claims another victim.

The Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries are what you get when all your book boyfriends come to life. This book bursts with petticoats and plots, steamy scenes and scandalous liaisons, manners and mystery, magical books and time-traveling rooms, and a healthy dose of Jane Austen humor. Read on only if you believe one hot book hero isn’t enough!

**PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS DISCUSSION QUESTION GUIDE MIGHT INCLUDE SPOILERS**

We’ve provided the Dirty Dozen below; twelve spicy and intriguing questions to spark discussion and help you uncover the spine-tingling depths of the story.

The Dirty Dozen

Foreplay – Warm Up Questions

1. What’s the overall spice level? 1 (Not Spicy) – 10 (Spiciest Thing I’ve Ever Read)?

2. How does the spice level compare to the other books we’ve read together?

3. If you were stuck sharing one bed in a house that kept shifting between time periods, would you stay the night? And which era would you secretly hope it shifted to?

The Spicy Bits – Gettin’ Down and Dirty with the Plot

4. Lydia diving headfirst into social media is comedy gold. What’s the first modern thing you’d corrupt her with, and why?

5. Be honest: have you ever gotten an unsolicited pic? Did you block, laugh, save, or fire one back?

6. Time to play: Between Morrie, Heathcliff and Quoth from the book would you f*ck, marry, kill? Defend your choices.

7. If it really came down to it, who would you choose in a “why choose” situation? Could you actually pick one, or would you demand the full buffet?

8. Morrie calls love “wild, maddening, dangerous passion.” Do you see love as chaos, comfort, or both? Which version is playing out in this trio?

9. Mina bartering affection for sex (“say you love me, then you get my ass”) — hot power move or toxic manipulation?

10. Could you honestly resist getting involved if you knew you were standing toe-to-toe with a murderer, or would curiosity and adrenaline win?

11. If you had to live out your own dark romance arc, would you play cop or criminal, and which role do you think would really suit you?

Aftercare – Final Thoughts

12. When all the reveals hit, did you see the truth coming, or were you blindsided right up until the end?

Bonus: What questions do you have for the author? If you could dog-ear a page with a question for the author, what would it be?
