Book Review: Double Your Standards
Double Your Standards is the final book in the 3-book Carlson Brothers series by Sarah Blue and I read it last as it takes place several years after the first two books. After reading what all three were about, this is the one I was most excited about. I do love a reverse-harem and hot twins too? Yes, please!
Our buttoned-up college professor, Kate, reeling from her divorce, creates what I like to affectionately call a “f*cket list” of things she wants to try. Enter Gavin and Ben, or was it Ben and Gavin? Either way, following Kate’s journey of self-discovery was excellent.
This was a 4* read for me. I loved it. I might even make it a 5* read one day, although thus far I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to consistently recommend it, other than to you dear review reader.
If you love a book where he’s a dom and she’s a sub, this book is for you. If you love a book where he’s a sub and she’s a domme, this book is for you. If you love a “taking two twins at once (no sword-crossing)” kink, this book is for you. The author also looked at this taboo relationship through the lens of professional appearance, particularly for an educator, in a way that explored the positives and negatives of having your personal life crash into your professional life without it being a professor x student trope.
The only thing I would say about this book is that the outside forces used to create tension were similar to that of the first book in the series – which the characters also identify within the pages – but it felt a little repetitive and on the nose in a series where each book has its own unique characters, tropes, and kinks. But if that’s the worst someone can say about a spicy romance, a genre that’s built its success on entire series’ of the same book over and over again, then you’re onto a winner in my opinion.
